Okpebholo Blasts Edo PDP, Declares Early Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has openly criticized the state's chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while expressing strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.Governor Okpebholo announced the commencement of mobilization efforts for President Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaign, asserting that the campaign has effectively begun in Edo State.

This declaration has drawn sharp criticism from the Edo PDP, which contends that initiating a presidential campaign nearly two years before the election contravenes Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022. This section stipulates that public campaigning by political parties should commence 150 days before polling day.

In response to the PDP's allegations, Governor Okpebholo has dismissed the criticisms as politically motivated, suggesting that they stem from fear of his administration's growing popularity and effective governance. He emphasized his commitment to supporting President Tinubu's leadership and policies, which he believes are beneficial to both Edo State and Nigeria at large.

The political tension between Governor Okpebholo and the Edo PDP underscores the deepening divisions within the state's political landscape, as both parties prepare for the upcoming electoral cycles.
