Gospel Singer and Pastor Big Bolaji Dies at 50 on Easter Saturday

Gospel singer and pastor Bolaji Olarewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji or "Big B," has passed away at the age of 50. His family confirmed that he died on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a brief illness.

 

Big Bolaji was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s gospel music scene, celebrated for his energetic praise sessions and uplifting songs such as “Real to Me,” “God Father,” and “Baba Lo Soun Gbogbo.” He was also an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and hosted the annual concert “Turn It Up With Big Bolaji” in Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

Born in Gbongan, Osun State, and raised in Ibadan, he began his music ministry with the group J’apha and later became a beloved radio talk show host. He was a certified estate surveyor and had been active in ministry for over 19 years.

 

The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning and will announce funeral arrangements in due course. They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support received from fans and colleagues.​

 

Tributes have been pouring in from fellow artists and fans alike. Comedian Ayobami 'Woli Agba' Ajewole expressed heartbreak over the loss, while gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori described it as “painful, sad, and heartbreaking”.

Big Bolaji’s legacy of faith, music, and community impact will be remembered by many.
