Nigerian Senate Passes Vote of Confidence in Akpabio Amid Allegations

On March 13, 2025, the Nigerian Senate unanimously passed a vote of confidence in its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. This action comes in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment made against him by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The Senate emphasized that such allegations should be resolved through the judicial system and cited its standing rules, which prevent interference in matters under judicial consideration.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously been suspended on March 6, 2025, for alleged misconduct and disobedience to Senate rules. She claimed her suspension was a tactic to deny her justice regarding her accusations against Senator Akpabio. However, the Senate has chosen to focus on its legislative duties and allow the judiciary to handle the pending issues.
