Pope Francis's Health and Easter Appearances

On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square, hopeful for an appearance by Pope Francis, who has been recuperating from a severe case of double pneumonia. The 88-year-old pontiff, discharged from a 38-day hospital stay on March 23, has since limited his public engagements while undergoing respiratory therapy.

While the Vatican had not confirmed his participation in the Easter Mass, there was anticipation that Pope Francis might deliver the traditional "Urbi et Orbi" blessing, a message that typically addresses global issues and offers prayers for peace.

In recent weeks, Pope Francis has made selective public appearances, including a Palm Sunday greeting to over 20,000 attendees and a Holy Thursday visit to Rome's Regina Caeli prison, underscoring his commitment to pastoral duties despite health challenges.

As the Catholic Church observes the Jubilee Year and prepares for significant events like the canonization of Carlo Acutis, Pope Francis's resilience continues to inspire the faithful worldwide.
