Putin's Stance on Ukraine Ceasefire Raises Concerns

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed reservations regarding the proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, citing concerns that such a truce could allow Ukrainian forces to rearm and regroup. He emphasizes that any ceasefire should lead to a lasting peace addressing the root causes of the conflict. Putin's conditions include Ukraine recognizing Russia's annexation of certain regions, withdrawing its troops, and pledging not to join NATO. He also demands limitations on Ukraine's military capabilities, protections for Russian speakers, and new elections in Ukraine.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed cautious optimism about Putin's stance, acknowledging it as a step toward peace but noting that detailed negotiations are still required, particularly on territorial and resource issues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, accuses Putin of setting conditions to delay the ceasefire, fearing a direct rejection of the proposal to the White House.

The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with ongoing discussions about potential peace agreements and the enforcement of sanctions to maintain pressure on Russia.
