Recent Incidents Involving Catholic Clergy in Nigeria

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 34-year-old Tahamado Jonathan Demian for allegedly kidnapping two Catholic priests, Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman of the Catholic Diocese of Yola and Matthew David Dusami of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo. Demian, reportedly a member of the same church as the victims, was apprehended during a coordinated police operation at a criminal hideout in Gwaida Malam village, a remote area between Numan and Demsa Local Government Areas.

The operation, initiated on February 21, 2025, led to the successful rescue of the two priests without injury, and no ransom was paid. Authorities also recovered a locally fabricated assault rifle, a handset, and SIM cards from the suspect. The rescued priests are currently receiving medical attention, and Demian is in police custody as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris expressed gratitude for the support from the government, security agencies, and the public, urging continued cooperation to enhance timely responses to security threats.
