Amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Nigeria, former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has outlined conditions for reconciling with suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Wike emphasized that Fubara must first acknowledge any wrongdoing and formally seek forgiveness before any reconciliation can occur.
In response to appeals from Niger Delta leader Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, Wike's aide, Olayinka, stated that Fubara has not reached out to apologize or initiate peace efforts. Olayinka clarified that Wike's concerns are not personal but pertain to governance principles, including adherence to the rule of law and loyalty to those who supported Fubara's rise to power. He added that if Fubara believes he has offended anyone, it should be the President, not Wike.
The political tension between Wike and Fubara has led to significant disruptions in Rivers State's governance, including the suspension of the governor and other officials, and the appointment of a Sole Administrator by President Bola Tinubu to oversee the state's affairs.
The situation remains fluid, with stakeholders urging for dialogue and reconciliation to restore stability in the state.
