Son arrested for stabbing mother to death in Jigawa

Police in Jigawa State have arrested a 32-year-old man, Samuel Shegun, over the alleged killing of his biological mother.
The state commissioner of police, CP. AT Abdullahi, stated this while parading the suspect at the command’s headquarters in Dutse, the state capital.
It was reported that the police discovered the lifeless body of a 47-year-old woman, Esther Adekanla, popularly known as Hadiza Nakowa, in her house in Dutse town.
He said that following the investigation, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, arrested one Samuel Shegun of the opposite Awajil filling Station, Dutse, in connection with the brutal killing of his mother, one Esther Adekanla of the same address, and injured his sister.
The suspect was arrested via tracking of the deceased phone number, which linked him to the offence.
According to him, “On interrogation, the suspect disclosed that, on 12/02/2024 at about 2200 hrs, his mother returned back from where she sells food and that she started fighting with the young girl, Christiana Michael, to the extent that she held a knife. In his effort to rescue the girl, he dragged her back when they all fell, and she cut herself on the neck with the said knife.
“When he realized the gravity of the offence committed and didn’t want to be called by the security operatives, he decided to steal her phones, lock the house, and move far away from the area.”
CP. Abdullahi said the little girl, who is recuperating from various injuries sustained, is still under medical care and responding to treatment.
He said the girl has confirmed to the police that the suspect single-handedly committed the offence.
The suspect will be charged in court for prosecution.
