Tinubu Meets Lagos Lawmakers in Abuja, Acknowledges Obasa’s Impeachment

President Bola Tinubu recently met with key figures from the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Abuja. The meeting was convened following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa by 32 out of the 40 assembly members, who cited allegations of corruption and highhandedness.

During the closed-door session, President Tinubu expressed dissatisfaction with the manner of Obasa's impeachment, likening it to a "coup." However, after appeals from GAC leaders and acknowledgment of Obasa's alleged misconduct, Tinubu reluctantly accepted the assembly's decision.

The newly appointed Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, attended the meeting and pledged to collaborate with state leaders and other government branches to promote transparency, inclusion, and good governance for Lagos residents.

Notably absent from the meeting were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and the ousted Speaker Obasa, although reports indicate Obasa was in Abuja at the time.

This development underscores a significant shift in the leadership dynamics of the Lagos State House of Assembly, reflecting ongoing efforts to address internal challenges and enhance governance in the state.
