A 23-year-old apprentice, Jonathan Emmanuel, tragically died from electrocution at a welding workshop in the Asimolowo area of Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State. The incident occurred while Emmanuel, his boss Azeez Salami (a truck driver), and Olaleye Kamaldeen (the owner of an Iveco truck) were offloading truck rims at the workshop owned by Oladokun Johnson. During the process, one of the rims came into contact with an exposed live wire from a welding machine, leading to Emmanuel's immediate electrocution.
Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command arrested three individuals: the welder, the truck owner, and the driver. They are currently in custody as investigations continue. The welding machine and exposed wire have been seized as exhibits. The case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and potential prosecution. Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola emphasized the importance of workplace safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents.
