At a recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Abuja, National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed that upon assuming office, he inherited legal liabilities amounting to approximately ₦8.98 billion. These debts stem from expenses related to pre-election legal battles, election cases, and appeals across legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.
Dr. Ganduje highlighted that some of the party's bank accounts have been garnished due to these outstanding obligations. He emphasized that the National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdul Kareem Kana (SAN), is actively working to mitigate the debt burden through dialogue and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Despite these efforts, the chairman appealed to the NEC for intervention, noting the ongoing financial constraints faced by the party.
The NEC meeting saw the attendance of prominent party figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and various state governors. During the session, the NEC passed a vote of confidence in both President Tinubu and Dr. Ganduje, commending their leadership and the party's direction.
In addition to addressing the financial challenges, Dr. Ganduje proposed the construction of a new national secretariat to better accommodate the party's national officers. He mentioned that the National Working Committee (NWC) has applied to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for land allocation and sought the President's support to expedite the project's realization.
The chairman also outlined a strategic shift in the party's campaign approach, focusing on grassroots engagement by inaugurating state campaign councils within the respective states rather than centrally in Abuja. This initiative aims to enhance local participation and effectiveness in campaign management.
As the APC navigates these financial and organizational challenges, its leadership remains committed to strengthening the party's infrastructure and fostering unity among its members.
