Baba-Ahmed Warns: Nigeria’s Future in Peril Under APC Leadership

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Political Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has voiced serious concerns about Nigeria's trajectory under the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a recent interview, he warned that the nation's future is at risk due to the current administration's handling of critical issues.

Baba-Ahmed criticized the Tinubu administration for failing to address the shortcomings of the previous government led by Muhammadu Buhari. He expressed disappointment that, despite opportunities to implement meaningful changes, the current leadership has not made significant progress. He stated, "The future doesn’t look healthy with the APC, which is burdened by its own liabilities as well as those inherited from other parties."

Highlighting the administration's reluctance to incorporate younger, dynamic leaders, Baba-Ahmed emphasized the need for a more realistic approach to governance. He urged President Tinubu to surround himself with competent and visionary individuals to navigate the nation's challenges effectively. Reflecting on his tenure, he mentioned feeling increasingly sidelined, noting that his advice was often ignored, leading to poor decision-making within the administration.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Baba-Ahmed cautioned Nigerians to be wary of politicians who have previously failed the country. He stressed the importance of electing leaders committed to addressing issues like insecurity and poverty. He also dismissed the idea of joining any political coalition that includes former leaders responsible for Nigeria’s current state, stating, "I’m not interested in joining any coalition of people who have wrecked the country."

Baba-Ahmed called on Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious divisions, emphasizing that the future of the nation belongs to the people, not to power-hungry individuals currently in office. He concluded by asserting that Nigeria cannot overcome its problems under the present leadership or through coalitions of politicians clinging to power.
