Bauchi State 2025 Budget: Major Boost for Health, Education, and Nutrition Initiatives

In November 2024, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State presented a ₦465.85 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. This budget, titled the 'Budget of Consolidation and Sustainable Development,' allocates significant funds to key sectors, with health and education receiving the largest shares. The health sector is set to receive ₦70.228 billion, representing 15.08% of the total budget, while the education sector is allocated ₦69.933 billion, accounting for 15.04% of the budget. These allocations align with the Abuja Declaration's recommendation of dedicating at least 15% of the budget to health.

The emphasis on health and education underscores the state's commitment to enhancing healthcare services and educational development. The budget also reflects an 18% increase from the previous year's allocation, attributed to reforms and inflationary trends affecting various sectors. Additionally, the recurrent expenditure has been increased to accommodate the implementation of a new ₦70,000 minimum wage and the contributory pension scheme, resulting in a 25% rise in the wage bill.

While the budget significantly boosts funding for health and education, specific details regarding allocations for nutrition programs within the health sector have not been explicitly mentioned in the available sources. However, the substantial investment in healthcare suggests a potential positive impact on nutrition-related initiatives in the state.
