Ekiti Court Sentences Five to Death by Hanging for Armed Robbery and Murder

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced five individuals to death by hanging for armed robbery and murder. The convicts—Ojo Tope, Damilola Christopher, Joshua Adegoke, Aderopo Temitope, and Oyedele Oluwatobi—were found guilty of robbing three residents and killing a night guard during a violent attack on August 18, 2021, at Agogo Street, Ilupeju Avenue, Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti.

Justice Olalekan Olatawura, who presided over the case, also sentenced each defendant to 21 years in prison for conspiracy. The prosecution, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Julius Ajibare, presented four witnesses and 13 exhibits, which the court determined proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

The defendants, represented by Adeyinka Opaleke, testified in their own defense but did not call additional witnesses. The court concluded that the prosecution had established the defendants' guilt in the charges of armed robbery, murder, and conspiracy.
