Family holds prayer session for Kwara student murdered by Facebook acquaintance.

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, a prayer session was held at Adefalu Compound in the Ojuekun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, to honor the memory of Miss Yetunde Lawal. Miss Lawal, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education, was tragically murdered, allegedly for ritual purposes, by a man she had connected with on Facebook.

The prayer session, organized by local Muslim leaders, was led by Imam Alabidun, a respected Islamic scholar in the community. He offered prayers for the deceased and called upon the family to find solace in their faith, emphasizing that those responsible for such heinous acts would face divine justice.

Miss Lawal's father, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal, recounted that his daughter had recently begun teaching at a private nursery and primary school in the area. On the day of her disappearance, she had attended a friend's naming ceremony and mentioned plans to visit another friend. When she did not return home, the family reported her missing to the Oja-Oba Police Station. Investigations led to the arrest of Abdulrahman Mohammed Bello, an Islamic cleric, who confessed to the crime.

Alhaji Lawal expressed his desire for justice to be served, urging the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation to deter future incidents and ensure societal safety.

This tragic event underscores the importance of exercising caution in online interactions and the need for community vigilance to prevent such occurrences in the future.
