FG Closes Enugu Airport Runway for Repairs as Air Peace, Others Halt Flights

The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the runway at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for emergency repairs, following the discovery of a significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway. The closure will take effect from April 22 to May 6, 2025.

In response to the deteriorating runway conditions, Air Peace has suspended all flights to and from Enugu, citing safety concerns. The airline stated that the runway issues had been causing major disruptions to its operations. To mitigate the impact on passengers, Air Peace has redirected its Enugu-bound flights to Asaba Airport in Delta State.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured that the closure is in compliance with Nigerian civil aviation regulations and is part of efforts to ensure passenger safety and upgrade airport infrastructure. FAAN has appealed to travelers for their understanding during the repair period.

Travelers planning to fly to or from Enugu during this period are advised to check with their airlines for alternative arrangements and updates.
