Manufacturers Support Tax Reforms, Demand Crackdown on Illegal Levies

Manufacturers in Nigeria are backing tax reforms aimed at simplifying the tax system and reducing multiple taxation. They are also calling for a crackdown on illegal levies imposed by various government agencies and local authorities.

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other industry leaders have expressed concerns that excessive taxation stifles business growth, discourages investment, and increases the cost of production. They argue that illegal levies and overlapping tax obligations from federal, state, and local governments create an unfavorable business environment.

In response, they are urging the government to streamline tax policies, eliminate redundant taxes, and ensure that only legally approved taxes are collected. This aligns with recent efforts by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other regulatory bodies to enhance transparency and ease the tax burden on businesses.

The push for tax reforms comes amid economic challenges, including rising production costs and inflation, which manufacturers say are making it harder to remain competitive. They believe that addressing these tax issues will encourage more investment in the manufacturing sector, create jobs, and boost economic growth.
