On February 20, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM, a white Paragon commercial vehicle with registration number BDG 753 YH, driven by Mr. Morufu Adedeji, was ambushed by armed assailants along the Warewa axis of the Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The attackers halted the vehicle and began robbing passengers at gunpoint. Some passengers managed to escape through the rear door, which the driver had courageously opened. In response to a distress call, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command arrived promptly and engaged the criminals in a gunfight. Four of the assailants were fatally injured, while others fled with gunshot wounds into the surrounding forest. Recovered items included a locally made pistol with two cartridges, two daggers, ₦20,000 in cash, a Tecno Android phone, a solar power bank, and three USB lights. The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has reinforced tactical operatives at strategic points and urged the public to report individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
This incident follows a similar event three weeks prior, on January 25, 2025, when five suspected kidnappers were neutralized by the Ogun State Police Command along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. In that case, the assailants had set up a roadblock using an articulated truck and abducted three commuters. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, ₦5.2 million suspected to be proceeds of crime, and three mobile phones.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat criminal activities along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
