Senate President Godswill Akpabio has cautioned against uninformed public commentaries on Senate proceedings, emphasizing the importance of understanding parliamentary rules before engaging in discussions. This statement comes in the wake of the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for violating Senate protocols—a decision that was unanimously supported by fellow lawmakers. 

Akpabio expressed concern over the prevalence of commentary from individuals lacking knowledge of Senate procedures, particularly on television and social media platforms. He urged the public to seek accurate information before making public statements, highlighting the need to avoid misquoting Senate rules. 

The suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has sparked debates and reactions, including criticisms from opposition parties. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the suspension, accusing Akpabio of attempting to suppress investigations into allegations of sexual harassment made against him by Akpoti-Uduaghan. 

Akpabio has denied these allegations, asserting that he has never harassed any woman. 

In response to the situation, Akpabio emphasized that the Senate's actions were in accordance with established rules and procedures. He advised the public to refrain from making uninformed comments and to familiarize themselves with the facts before engaging in public discourse on Senate matters.
