US election: Kamala Harris leads Trump in new poll

According to a nationwide presidential survey issued Tuesday by Reuters/Ipsos, Vice President Kamala Harris is marginally ahead of former President Donald Trump.

According to Reuters, the survey compared Biden's two-point loss against Trump in last week's poll, prior to his Sunday retirement from the race.

The new poll was conducted on Monday and Tuesday, following both the Republican National Convention, where Trump formally received the nomination on Thursday, and Biden's declaration on Sunday that he would withdraw from the race and endorse Harris.

Harris, whose campaign claims she has earned the Democratic nomination, led Trump by 44% to 42% in the nationwide poll, a margin of error of three percentage points.

Reuters noted that while nationwide surveys give important signals of Americans support for political candidates, a handful of competitive states typically tilt the balance in the U.S.
