Bandits Ambush and Kill Six Community Guards in Zamfara

On March 23, 2025, six members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) and four vigilantes known as Yansakai were killed in an ambush by bandits near Bagega, in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The incident occurred as they were returning from a mission. Their burials were conducted on Sunday morning.

This tragic event is part of a series of attacks targeting community guards in Zamfara State. Earlier this month, 12 operatives of the CPG and local vigilantes were killed in a clash with bandits in Adabka village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area.  Additionally, five months ago, eight CPG personnel were killed in an ambush near Tsafe town.

The Zamfara State Community Protection Guards were established to complement the efforts of other security agencies in combating banditry and ensuring the safety of residents. Despite their efforts, the region continues to face significant security challenges.
