Edison Ehie: I Was Offered ₦5bn to Betray Governor Fubara

Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that he was offered a ₦5 billion bribe to orchestrate the impeachment of his principal. Ehie, who previously served as the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, stated that the bribe offer occurred in October 2023 during his tenure as a legislator.

In a recent interview, Ehie claimed to possess evidence of the bribery attempt, including messages stored on his phone, which he has reportedly printed and distributed for safekeeping. He emphasized that he rejected the offer, choosing to remain loyal to Governor Fubara.

Ehie also addressed allegations made by former Head of Service George Nwaeke, who accused Governor Fubara of involvement in political unrest in Rivers State. Ehie dismissed these claims as false and politically motivated, announcing his intention to pursue legal action against Nwaeke for criminal libel.

These developments highlight the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, reflecting the broader power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The state has experienced significant political turmoil since the fallout between these two figures over control of the state's political apparatus.
