Margaret Ekpeyong Okon, the Assistant State Woman Leader (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has officially resigned from the party. Her resignation comes shortly after Emana Amawhe, the PDP's deputy governorship candidate for the 2024 general elections, also stepped down. In her resignation letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Edem Odo Ward, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Okon expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences she gained while serving the party in various capacities, including as a ward executive member, councillor, and most recently, as a member of the state executive council and assistant state women leader for the South.
This development adds to the recent political shifts in Cross River State following Amawhe’s departure, marking a notable change in the local political landscape.
Additionally, in August 2023, Hajiya Wanka, the PDP Deputy National Women Leader, resigned from her position following her appointment as a commissioner in the Bauchi State Executive Council.
