Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has taken decisive action following the recent killings in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area. In response to the tragic incident where travellers were allegedly intercepted and murdered by local vigilantes, Governor Okpebholo has suspended the head of the state's security network and disbanded the implicated vigilante group. He has also ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.​

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the killings, describing them as "dastardly," and has directed security agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation. He emphasized that "jungle justice has no place in Nigeria," reaffirming the constitutional right of all Nigerians to move freely across the country.
