President Tinubu Orders Manhunt for Killers of Northern Travelers in Edo

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent killing of travelers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, and has directed security agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2025, when a group of travelers, reportedly hunters from Northern Nigeria en route from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Sallah festivities, were intercepted by local vigilantes in Uromi. The vigilantes suspected them of being kidnappers, leading to a tragic mob action that resulted in the deaths of at least 16 individuals.

In response, President Tinubu expressed deep shock over the incident and emphasized that jungle justice has no place in Nigeria. He reaffirmed that all Nigerians have the right to move freely across the country without fear of molestation or attack. The President extended his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the government would not allow the perpetrators to shed the blood of innocent Nigerians in vain.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, along with community leaders in Uromi, have been commended for their prompt intervention to prevent further escalation of tensions in the area. As part of the ongoing investigation, the Nigeria Police have arrested 14 suspects in connection with the killings and have deployed additional personnel to maintain peace and order in the community.

Authorities continue to urge citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
