Rivers Political Crisis: Ex-HoS’s Mysterious Disappearance Sparks Conflicting Claims

Florence Nwaeke, the wife of former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, expressed deep concern over her husband's sudden disappearance following his resignation. She reported that after his arrival in Abuja, he contacted her to confirm his safe landing. However, upon seeing an online interview featuring her husband, which she found uncharacteristic, she became alarmed and attempted to reach him without success, leading her to fear for his safety.

In response to his wife's concerns, George Nwaeke released a video statement from the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, assuring the public of his safety. He stated that he traveled to Abuja voluntarily to report certain troubling developments in Rivers State to security agencies. Nwaeke suggested that his wife had been misled and given a script to read, emphasizing that she was not involved in his official duties and that her claims were unfounded.

Prior to these events, Nwaeke had accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly to prevent his impeachment and of supporting militant activities against oil facilities. Governor Fubara dismissed these allegations, suggesting that Nwaeke had been compromised and was acting under coercion or financial inducement.

This situation unfolds amid a backdrop of political tension in Rivers State, with the State House of Assembly threatening to resume impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara due to alleged unlawful actions and governance issues.

The conflicting narratives between George Nwaeke and his wife have raised public concern, highlighting the complex and volatile political climate in Rivers State.
