Tinubu Reveals: Why I Almost Quit the 2023 Presidential Race

President Bola Tinubu recently disclosed that he nearly withdrew from the 2023 presidential race due to significant challenges during his campaign. Speaking at a special Iftar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu recounted a moment when a close relative blamed him for the prevailing cash scarcity caused by the naira redesign policy, suggesting it was a consequence of his political ambitions. This accusation led Tinubu to consider stepping down from the race.

However, encouragement from key supporters, notably former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, persuaded him to continue. Masari assured Tinubu of the North West's solid backing, reinforcing his resolve to stay in the contest.

Tinubu also reflected on the economic uncertainties he faced upon assuming office, highlighting difficult decisions such as the removal of fuel subsidies. He emphasized that leadership requires making tough but necessary choices for the nation's benefit.

These revelations provide insight into the personal and political challenges Tinubu encountered during his journey to the presidency.
