Visa Inc. has entered into a strategic partnership with NeGSt-TAS Technologies Limited, a Nigerian e-Government and digital technology service provider, to digitize Nigeria's economy. This collaboration aligns with Visa's commitment to invest $1 billion over the next five years to enhance digital economies across Africa, aiming to foster resilient, innovative, and inclusive financial systems.
The partnership focuses on integrating digital tools to transition from analog to digital technologies, thereby increasing accessibility, generating higher income, and ensuring accountability and sustainability within Nigeria's national economy. Babatunde Obada, Executive Vice Chairman of NeGSt-TAS, highlighted Visa's successful digitization efforts in regions like the United States, Europe, Ukraine, and the United Arab Emirates, expressing optimism about achieving similar success in Nigeria.
In a related development, the Nigerian government has inaugurated the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Center (BATTIC) at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja. This state-of-the-art facility includes an 8.3-petabyte data center designed to enhance national security, streamline visa and passport processing, and boost investor confidence. The center's advanced technological infrastructure positions Nigeria among the few African nations with integrated passenger security systems, marking a significant step toward comprehensive digital transformation.
These initiatives underscore Nigeria's commitment to leveraging digital technology for economic diversification and growth, with Visa's involvement playing a pivotal role in advancing the country's digital economy.
