Delta State officials have recently addressed allegations linking the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, to oil bunkering activities. The Delta State Government has dismissed these claims, emphasizing the monarch's commitment to peace and development in the region.
In response to a recent attack on Chevron's pipeline at the Dibi-Olero-Abiteye trunk line and flow stations, the Olu of Warri condemned the act and called for calm. His Sole Representative and Liaison to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, clarified that the Itsekiri people are not associated with the group claiming responsibility for the attack, the Niger Delta Liberation Movement (NDLM). He emphasized that the Itsekiri nation advocates for peaceful engagement to achieve fair employment and infrastructural development.
Prince Edema stated, "The attack on Chevron pipeline facilities is alien to the ideology of the struggle of the Itsekiri Nation to get a better deal for our people in terms of employment, infrastructure, and welfare." He also appealed to the youth to remain calm, noting ongoing efforts to address unresolved employment issues with Chevron.
The Delta State Government's dismissal of the oil bunkering allegations against the Olu of Warri underscores the administration's support for the monarch's leadership and its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
