On Sunday evening, February 2, 2025, His Royal Highness Friday Ehizojie, the Onojie of Udo-Eguare in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, was abducted by unknown gunmen. The incident occurred along a secluded path between Ubiaja and Udo community, where the monarch was ambushed while riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. The assailants shot and killed the motorcycle rider before taking the traditional ruler and five others captive. One of the abducted individuals reportedly managed to escape and recounted the event to the community.
In response to the abduction, the Edo State Police Command has deployed tactical teams, including the Police Mobile Force, to the area to facilitate the rescue of the victims and apprehend the perpetrators. The Area Commander is personally overseeing the operation, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin.
The kidnapping of a traditional ruler has caused significant concern within the Udo-Eguare community, with residents expressing distress over the incident.
