Senate reorganizes committees and assigns new chairpersons.

The Senate has recently undertaken a reshuffle of its committees, appointing new chairpersons and deputies to oversee various commissions and standing committees. reorganization follows President Bola Tinubu's approval of bills establishing development commissions across different regions.

 

Newly Appointed Committee Leadership:

  • North West Development Commission: Senator Babangida Hussaini (Chairman) and Senator Muntari Dandutse (Deputy Chairman).

  • South East Development Commission: Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Chairman) and Senator Kenneth Eze (Deputy Chairman).

  • NorCentral Development Commission: Senator Titus Zam (Chairman) and Senator Isa Jibrin (Deputy Chairman).

 

Changes Standing Committees:

  • Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA): Senator Abdul ngi has been reassigned from the Population Committee to serve as Chairman.

  • Diaspora Non-Governmental Organisations: Senator Natasha Aoti Uduaghan, formerly leading the Local Content Committee, is now the Chairperson.

  • Sports Develent: Senator Garba Maidokhas been appointed as Chairman.

  • Local Content: Senator Joel Thomas is e new Chairman.

  • National Populationd National Identity Management Commission (NIMC): Senator Victor Umeh, previsly heading the Diaspora Committee, will now chair this committee.

These appointments were aued by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the Senate's resumption after a two-week recess. He also led the lawmakers in rving a minute of silence in honor of former Deputy Majority Whip, Oriyomi Onanuga, who passed away on January 15.

 

The Senate has indicated that further adjustments to committee leaderip may be announcedn subsequent legislative sessions.
