Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is unfazed by recent criticisms from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. Ibrahim emphasized that such opposition remarks do not undermine the legitimacy of the current administration.
Atiku Abubakar alleged that the presidency offered N50 million bribes to opposition parties to weaken their structures ahead of the 2027 elections. El-Rufai expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a "zero-man show" and advocating for a broad opposition coalition to challenge the APC. Amaechi called on Nigerians to prepare to defend their mandate in the upcoming 2027 elections, suggesting that politicians, including the current president, may not willingly cede power.
In response, Ibrahim questioned the validity of El-Rufai's claims, suggesting that if El-Rufai does not believe Tinubu lacks legitimacy now and in 2027, there is no cause for concern. He also challenged Atiku to provide evidence for his bribery allegations, stating that reactions should be based on empirical evidence rather than narratives. Regarding Amaechi's call for Nigerians to defend their mandate, Ibrahim remarked that such statements are typical of aggrieved party chieftains and candidates who lost in the 2023 election.
Ibrahim further noted that the ruling party is not intimidated by threats of defection, highlighting that for every member who leaves the APC, three others have joined from opposition parties. He pointed out that the criticisms are primarily from individuals who lost in the 2023 election and questioned why the media focuses solely on these dissenting voices.
In summary, Senator Ibrahim asserts that President Tinubu remains focused on governance and is not distracted by the criticisms from opposition figures.
