ASUU Denies Receiving FG’s ₦50bn Payment, Demands Proof from Tinubu Administration

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied receiving the ₦50 billion reportedly released by the Federal Government to settle earned academic allowances. ASUU National President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that the union has not seen any verifiable evidence of such payment and remains skeptical of the government's claims.

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, announced the release of ₦50 billion to both academic and non-academic staff of federal universities. This move was presented as part of President Bola Tinubu's commitment to improving the welfare of university staff and repositioning the education sector.

However, ASUU insists that until concrete proof, such as documentation or bank transfers, is provided, the union will not acknowledge the disbursement. Professor Osodeke emphasized that the union has only received verbal information and has yet to see any official confirmation of the funds being released.

This development highlights ongoing tensions between the Federal Government and ASUU, with the union demanding transparency and tangible evidence of financial commitments to avoid further disputes.
