Manchester City have completed the signing of 23-year-old Spanish midfielder Nico González from FC Porto for £50 million. González has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

In his first statements as a City player, González expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I am thrilled to join Manchester City and work under Pep Guardiola."

An interesting connection between González and Guardiola is that González's father, Fran, a former professional footballer, has been friends with Guardiola since their playing days in La Liga.

González began his career at Barcelona's La Masia academy before moving to Porto in 2023, where he made 68 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists.
