EFCC Investigates Ex-Minister Ohanenye for Alleged ₦138 Million Fraud

On Thursday, March 6, 2025, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogated former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of misappropriation, procurement violations, and diversion of public funds totaling ₦138,413,253.89. The alleged infractions pertain to the disbursement of the ministry's 2023 budgeted funds.

According to sources, investigations suggest that funds intended for the "P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative" were allegedly diverted for personal enrichment. Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11:00 AM and was questioned regarding her involvement in the alleged fraud. As of now, she has not been granted administrative bail, and investigations are ongoing.

Ohanenye was appointed as Minister of Women Affairs by President Bola Tinubu on August 21, 2023, and served until her dismissal in October 2024.
