Escalating Tensions: China and U.S. Exchange Warnings Amid Trade Dispute

China has issued a stern warning to the United States, declaring its readiness to engage in "any type of war" in response to escalating trade tensions. This development follows President Donald Trump's recent decision to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods, citing concerns over the flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

In a statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that China is prepared to "fight till the end" against any form of aggression, including tariff or trade wars. He criticized the U.S. for using the fentanyl issue as a pretext to increase tariffs, labeling it a "flimsy excuse." Lin further asserted that intimidation and coercion would not succeed in dealing with China.

In retaliation, China has imposed tariffs ranging from 10% to 15% on various American agricultural products, including soybeans, corn, beef, and dairy.

Additionally, China has added 25 U.S. companies to a list facing export and investment bans.

Responding to China's assertive stance, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States is prepared to confront threats from "powerful ascendant countries" like China. He emphasized the importance of military strength and readiness, noting that deterrence is crucial in maintaining peace.

These developments have heightened concerns about a potential escalation beyond economic measures, underscoring the fragility of U.S.-China relations amid ongoing trade disputes.
