The House of Representatives has advanced a bill proposing to amend the Electoral Act, 2022, aiming to transfer the responsibility of political party registration from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to an independent body. This initiative seeks to enable INEC to focus exclusively on election conduct, thereby enhancing electoral process efficiency. 

The bill also proposes other significant amendments, such as conducting all general elections on a single day to reduce costs and prevent the bandwagon effect, and mandating a comprehensive voter registration every ten years to maintain an updated voter register. 

Additionally, the bill seeks to clarify provisions regarding electronic transmission of election results, aiming to enhance transparency and reduce litigation arising from ambiguities in the current law. 

The proposed amendments reflect the legislature's commitment to refining Nigeria's electoral framework to ensure more credible and efficient elections.
