F’Eagles face challenging U-20 AFCON matchup

The draw for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has placed Nigeria's Flying Eagles in a challenging Group B, alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Côte d'Ivoire from April 26 to May 18, 2025.

This grouping is considered particularly tough, featuring multiple former champions. Former Malian international Adama Coulibaly, who assisted with the draw, remarked, "There is no doubt that the toughest group is the Group B that has Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco."

In the previous edition of the tournament in 2023, Nigeria faced Egypt in the group stage and secured a 1-0 victory. The Flying Eagles went on to finish third in that tournament.

The 2025 U-20 AFCON will feature 13 teams divided into three groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals. Additionally, the four semi-finalists will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

In preparation for the tournament, the Nigeria Football Federation is exploring the possibility of arranging friendly matches with teams not in the Flying Eagles' group, following the cancellation of proposed friendlies against Egypt due to their grouping.
