In observance of Valentine's Day, the Osun State government has taken proactive measures to promote safe sex among its citizens. The Ministry of Health distributed both male and female condoms to civil servants during a celebration organized by the Osun State Civil Service Union at the state government secretariat in Abere. This initiative aims to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and unwanted pregnancies.
Ololade Abatan, the State Family Planning Coordinator, emphasized the importance of using condoms for protection against STDs and unintended pregnancies, encouraging both young and older individuals to adopt safe sexual practices.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, highlighted the significance of love, peace, and unity among all members of society in the spirit of Valentine's Day. He urged citizens to reflect on their collective achievements and challenges, fostering a sense of togetherness and mutual support.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts by organizations such as the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Nigeria, which has advocated for safe sex among young people by distributing condoms and providing free HIV/AIDS testing and counseling across multiple states.
By promoting safe sexual practices, the Osun State government and partnering organizations aim to enhance public health and well-being, ensuring that Valentine's Day is celebrated responsibly.
