On October 7, 2023, during a Hamas attack on Israel, 86-year-old Shlomo Mansour was abducted from his home in Kibbutz Kissufim. The Israel Defense Forces have now confirmed that he was killed while in Hamas captivity, and his body has been held in Gaza since his abduction. 

Mansour, born in Iraq in 1938, was a Holocaust survivor, having lived through the 1941 Farhud massacre in Baghdad before emigrating to Israel. 

His kibbutz community has expressed profound grief over his loss, describing him as "much more than a community member... a father, a grandfather, a true friend and the beating heart of Kissufim."
