ANAMBRA: who will succeed Ubah?

The passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on July 27, 2024, has left a significant vacancy in Anambra South Senatorial District. Several political figures are positioning themselves to fill this role, each bringing unique backgrounds and affiliations to the table.

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Aspirants:

  • Ebuka Onunkwo: A prominent businessman and CEO of Seahorse Lubricants Industries Ltd, Onunkwo is considered the favored candidate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. His substantial investments in Anambra South and support from influential figures like Sir Emeka Offor bolster his candidacy.

  • Jude Emecheta: A foundational member of APGA and former Managing Director of the Anambra State Advertising Agency, Emecheta has been a loyal party member. Reports suggest he may have stepped down in favor of Onunkwo, following consultations within the party.

  • Pascal Agbodike: Currently representing the Ihiala Constituency in the House of Representatives and former Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Agbodike brings legislative experience to the race.

All Progressives Congress (APC) Aspirants:

  • Dozie Ikedife Jr.: Son of the late Dr. Dozie Ikedife, former President-General of Ohanaeze, Ikedife Jr. serves as the APC's organizing secretary in Anambra State. His close association with the late Senator Ubah and his father's legacy are central to his campaign.

  • Azuka Okwuosa: A seasoned politician and former Commissioner for Works and Transport during Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju's tenure, Okwuosa has extensive experience in Anambra politics. He previously aspired to govern the state in 2021.

As the by-election approaches, the political landscape in Anambra South is dynamic, with each candidate aiming to continue the legacy of service and development left by Senator Ubah.
