Nigerian billionaire and philanthropist Femi Otedola has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of football legend Christian Chukwu, describing the news as a “rude shock.” In his tribute, Otedola highlighted Chukwu's enduring legacy as a patriot and unifier through sport.
In 2019, when Chukwu faced severe health challenges due to prostate cancer, Otedola stepped in to cover his medical expenses, funding his treatment at Wellington Hospital in London.
Chukwu, who passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 74, was renowned for captaining the Nigerian national team to its first Africa Cup of Nations victory in 1980.
Otedola's tribute underscores the profound impact Chukwu had on Nigerian sports and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
