Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet the stringent bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Portable appeared in court on Monday, April 14, 2025, facing charges of criminal defamation, incitement, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. These charges stem from a petition filed by veteran Fuji musician Akorede Saheed, also known as Saheed Osupa. The petition alleged that Portable made defamatory statements during an Instagram live session, accusing Osupa of attempting to sabotage his music career.
Bail Conditions
The court granted Portable bail set at ₦1 million, with the requirement of two sureties in like sum. The conditions for the sureties are as follows:
-
One surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
-
The other must be a property owner within a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, supported by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
As of now, Portable remains in custody pending the fulfillment of these bail conditions.
Next Steps
The case has been adjourned, and Portable will remain in detention until he meets the bail requirements. Further details regarding the next court date have not been disclosed.
