The UK plans to set up an agritech hub in Oyo.

The Oyo State Government is collaborating with the United Kingdom's Agri-Tech Centre to enhance agriculture and livestock production through technological solutions. As part of this partnership, an Agritech Hub will be established within one of Oyo State's Agribusiness Industrial Hubs. This initiative aims to revolutionize agriculture in the state by providing practitioners with resources and opportunities in technological innovations.

Dr. Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Agribusiness, highlighted that the Agritech Centre is a funded project set to benefit the state. He emphasized that agriculture has evolved beyond traditional methods to incorporate technology, innovation, precision, and mechanization. This advancement is expected to increase productivity and production for livestock within Oyo State.

The UK Agri-Tech Centre, launched in April 2024, serves as the national and international voice for agri-tech innovation in the UK. It was formed by merging three existing centers: the Agricultural Engineering, Precision and Innovation Centre (Agri-EPI), Crop Health and Protection (CHAP), and the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL). The Centre aims to broaden access to agri-tech opportunities, drive development and business growth, and accelerate the adoption of agri-tech solutions for farmers and growers.

This collaboration between Oyo State and the UK Agri-Tech Centre is expected to bring significant advancements to the agricultural sector in the region.
