In the early hours of April 8, 2025, unidentified gunmen attacked Istijaba Villa, an off-campus student hostel in Unguwar Jeji, Kebbi State. During the assault, they abducted Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level Economics student at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK). Additionally, a local resident was shot and killed during the incident.

The university's Public Relations Officer, Jamilu Muhammad, confirmed that the attackers stormed the hostel around 3:00 a.m., seizing Madubiya while he and other students were asleep.

This abduction is part of a troubling pattern of attacks on educational institutions in Kebbi State. Notably, in June 2021, gunmen abducted students and staff from the Federal Government College in Birnin-Yauri.

Authorities are actively investigating the recent incident and have initiated efforts to secure the safe release of the abducted student. The community remains on high alert as security measures are being reinforced to prevent further occurrences.
