Delta State is in mourning following the death of Chief (Mrs) Mary Iyasere, the Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship Development to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. Iyasere passed away in the early hours of Thursday, September 23, 2021, in Benin City after a brief illness, at the age of 68.
Governor Okowa expressed deep sorrow over her passing, describing her as a dedicated public servant and a grassroots politician who made significant contributions to the state's development. In his condolence message, he highlighted her roles as the former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry and as the Woman Leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State from 2003 to 2007. He noted her commitment to the unity and progress of the state, stating, "She was a gentlewoman-politician, friendly and receptive to the young and elderly, and distinguished herself in the service of our party and the state."
Iyasere's death adds to a series of recent losses in Delta State's political landscape, including the passing of former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Finance, Kenneth Okpara, and former Commissioner for Housing, Joseph Ajirioghene Ogeh.
The state government and the people of Delta remember Chief (Mrs) Mary Iyasere for her unwavering dedication to public service and her impactful contributions to the state's political and economic sectors.
