The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has announced that salary deductions are being implemented to recover overpayments made to federal workers in December 2024 due to a system error. These overpayments are being recouped through deductions from the affected employees' salaries and will continue until the excess amounts are fully recovered.
In the last quarter of 2024, various salary arrears were disbursed, including minimum wage arrears, 25%/35% salary increase arrears, and wage award arrears. These payments temporarily elevated salaries above their standard levels. With the exhaustion of these arrears, salaries returned to their normal amounts in January 2025. Some workers perceived this adjustment as a reduction, but the OAGF clarified that the salaries paid in January and February 2025 reflect the regular pay structure.
Regarding promotion arrears, the OAGF stated that the Standing Committee on Promotion and Salary Arrears within the Budget Office of the Federation is responsible for compiling and verifying these arrears from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Batches 1 to 6 have been processed and paid, with further payments pending as additional batches are received and processed.
The OAGF emphasized its commitment to efficient payroll management and advised federal workers with legitimate salary concerns to follow the formal complaint process to ensure swift resolution.
