FG Converts TASUED to Federal University, Expanding Nigeria’s Education Sector

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially adopted the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, as a federal university.

Established in 2005 by the Ogun State Government, TASUED holds the distinction of being Nigeria's first specialized university of education.

President Bola Tinubu approved this transition on Friday, expressing gratitude to the Ogun State Government for inviting federal oversight of the institution. He highlighted that this move honors Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who pioneered free education in Western Nigeria, and Dr. Tai Solarin, a dedicated educator and founder of Mayflower School in Ikenne.

As a federal institution, TASUED becomes the first federally owned tertiary school in the Ogun East senatorial district. This strategic move aligns with the Federal Government's commitment to enhancing teacher education and improving instructional quality across all educational levels.

With this development, the Federal Government now oversees three universities of education:

  • Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ogun State
  • Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education in Owerri
  • Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo

This expansion underscores the government's dedication to bolstering the nation's educational infrastructure.
