The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has relocated its 2025 Annual General Conference from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Enugu, citing concerns over unconstitutional governance and a breakdown of democratic order in Rivers State.
The NBA criticized the federal government's imposition of a Sole Administrator in Rivers State, describing it as a departure from constitutional norms and a violation of democratic principles. The association condemned the suspension of elected officials and the use of a voice vote by the National Assembly to ratify the state of emergency, calling it a "grave constitutional subversion."
The NBA emphasized that holding its flagship event in Rivers State under the current circumstances would amount to a tacit endorsement of constitutional violations. The association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the constitution and the rule of law.
The conference is now scheduled to take place in Enugu, a city deemed to possess the necessary infrastructure and capacity to host the event.
