Two Killed, Several Injured in Florida State University Mass Shooting

On April 17, 2025, a tragic mass shooting occurred at Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to at least six others. The incident began around 11:50 a.m. near the university's student union building. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, is the son of a longtime Leon County Sheriff's deputy. Authorities reported that Ikner used one of his mother's former service weapons during the attack. He was shot and wounded by police after refusing to comply with commands and is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries .​

 

The victims who lost their lives were not students of FSU. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. In response to the incident, FSU canceled all classes and business operations through April 18 and suspended home athletic events through April 20. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Florida Attorney General's office, are actively investigating the case .​
